PhillyNJ.NET Tonight!The well known
Philly.NET usergroup is expanding into New Jersey! Bill has chosen me to head it up and we've got our first meeting scheduled for tonight!
Naturally, I'll be doing the first speaking session, a beginner class titled "
Developer Testing 101."
This talk will include a general description of testing, and will cover testing levels, challenges, tools, and methodologies. We will touch on some advanced topics but for the most part this is meant to serve as an eye-opener for those not already doing automated testing.
Tools we will demonstrate are:
NUnit. Of course, this is the basic standard in our industry. If you've never used NUnit before, you owe it to yourself to learn more about it and give it a try.
MBUnit. Very similar to NUnit. You could describe it as a fancy version of NUnit with tons of more features, and a more glitzy UI. It can even run NUnit tests.
TestDriven.NET. This amazing tool lets you run your tests within the Visual Studio IDE. With debugging support (step through tests and code being tested), integration with NCover, Reflector, TypeMock, and tons of other things.
Selenium IDE. Would any demo of mine not include a
Firefox extension? This is my tool of choice for testing web apps. It's very simple to learn and use, yet it has advanced features that you can take advantage of once you move past the "IDE" and into the core and remote-control features.
